To you all you brand spankn' new dads out there, let me start by welcoming you to the team. Sit down, take a seat, keep your arms and legs in at all time and please don't forget to enjoy the ride -it might get bumpy.
Now I am sure you are getting tons of advice from your dad, your mom, your best friend, the women you work with all they way down to the UPS delivery dude. You might also be reading this site or others to get tips or tricks. And look I have been on this for what 10 minutes, but today, I want to offer a small piece of advice on bottle feeding.
It is quite simple actually.....
If your wife is breast feeding and you plan on bottle feeding what she pumps, once you got your little one started, don't stop.
Please I beg you. Learn from watching me.
It is much harder the second go round. Not that it is impossible. It just takes more patience, determination, a thick skin, and a healthy sense humor.
You cannot get your feelings in the way.
You cannot get down on yourself or your kid or your wife for that matter.
Instead, experiment a bit. Try different positions, locations, bottles, nipples shapes and flows.
Get creative and try to have fun.
I have started jamming out on the Bose IPod dock to a little Rick James during feedings. I even venture outside and swing on the front porch. I try to change
it up and give my MiniKamp something new to look at. But the big thing I am learning is that all you need is just a little patience.
I know it might be frustrating but that time with your kid is worth it.
Besides (and I hate this analogy) it is not a sprint, rather it is a marathon. Stay hydrated and pace yourself.
Now let me say a quick thanks to everyone who chimed in and gave me their tips and shared their stories. You guys mind if I put you on speed dial for any other questions?
